Personal Storytelling As a Healing Tool

Tell Your Story To Heal: The Blog

Have you ever wished you could rewrite the story you tell about yourself?

On Friday, October 17th, I’m inviting a small group of people to do just that—through movement, storytelling, and community. We’ll meet in Brunswick, Maryland, with the option to join on Zoom, for an evening of self-discovery and creative exploration.

Here’s what you’ll experience:

Awaken your body, voice, and energy through a guided warm-up that reconnects you to your sense of presence.

Write a short creative piece that reveals your intention for being here and identifies who you most want to reach with that story.

Share your piece in a supportive circle and receive reflections that help you see yourself through new, compassionate eyes.

Read your story aloud with gentle coaching—transforming your words into a moment of empowerment and release.

If this speaks to you, you can register for the workshop on the event page.

I Am a Story

My biggest challenge has always been staying in the present—probably why I began this spiritual journey in the first place. For years, I found myself caught between regretting every foolish thing I’d ever said and imagining terrifying futures that hadn’t yet happened.

What helped ground me was viewing my life as one continuous story. From childhood to now, and from now to my final breath—each moment is a chapter. So what makes a story whole?

Chekhov’s Gun: If something is introduced in the first act, it must be revealed before the finale.

As a kid, I loved stories. I’d play pretend for hours, inventing whole worlds alone or with my sister. I got lost in books and movies, sometimes sitting in silence long after the ending. When I fell in love with theater, I said what many young actors say: “I’m in it for the stories.”

But somewhere along the way—maybe because of Instagram, or chasing an imaginary 401(k)—that love faded, replaced by endless scrolling.

By bringing storytelling back into my practice, I’m honoring my own “Chekhov’s gun.” Maybe yours is a childhood love of animals, or the sea, or a passion you’ve set aside. Together, we’ll explore how reconnecting with those early sparks can nurture wellness, creativity, and wholeness.

Stories Are Meant to Be Interpreted

When we view our story only through our own lens, we risk seeing ourselves through a narrow filter.

In my own story, I’ve often cast myself as obnoxious, immature, or unremarkable. But sharing my story with others helped me see what I couldn’t alone. Others reflected back compassion and truth, showing me that beneath my self-criticism was a longing to be seen—a performer hiding behind the fool.

That’s the beauty of community storytelling. When others witness our stories, we begin to heal the parts of ourselves that felt unseen. In this workshop, you’ll experience that transformation firsthand—both as storyteller and listener.

It’s All About Community

By the time I earned my master’s in acting, I had also devoured nearly every spirituality book Oprah recommended—Eckhart Tolle, Marianne Williamson, Deepak Chopra, Don Miguel Ruiz, even James Van Praagh (who, I can confirm, is a hoot).

But I read them alone. I did The Artist’s Way alone. I practiced yoga and meditation alone—mostly because of COVID-19. It wasn’t until I began studying shamanic somatic energy transformation therapy that I truly found my people, my community.

Matthew 18:20 says, “For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.” For me, that verse isn’t just about faith—it’s about connection. Whether the name is Jesus, Buddha, Mohammad, Bill, Martha, or José—if we gather in love and curiosity, honoring both the self and the whole, transformation follows.

Why You Should Join This Workshop

To reconnect with your creative and spiritual energy.

To release old narratives and discover new meaning in your story.

To experience the healing power of being seen and heard.

To join a caring community that helps you grow while you help others do the same.

To leave feeling lighter, clearer, and more open to abundance.

Whether you’re joining in person or online, I’d love for you to be part of this experience. Together, we’ll explore what happens when story, spirit, and community meet—and how your story can become a source of freedom, joy, and renewal.
